China, India & The UAE Revealed As Top Food & Drink Export Destinations

Monday 17th July 2017

Businesses in the food and drink sector looking to expand into new markets in the near future might want to consider the likes of India, China and the UAE, which have all been identified as being the top three markets for companies in this sector.

New research from the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has found that global food exports are on the rise, climbing by seven per cent annually between 2006 and 2015. In the UK during the same period, food and drink exports rose by four per cent.

Key trading partners were found to be Germany, the Netherlands, France and Ireland, while the EEA is still the market with the biggest perceived potential for the industry.

Director-general of the FDF Ian Wright commented on the findings, saying: "The issues facing the food and drink industry are complex, but if we find the right solutions there is great reward - not just for our sector and the wider economy. We believe a new sector deal, working in partnership with government and the farm-to-fork supply chain, will harness this potential."

Back in May, the FDF also revealed that exports of all food and drink in the UK for the first quarter of this year rose by £4.9 billion, a hike of 8.3 per cent on the same period last year. The top three export products were found to be whisky, salmon and chocolate, with the top three export destinations revealed as being Ireland, France and the US.
