Extension Granted For UKOG Oil Test Drilling

Extension Granted For UKOG Oil Test Drilling

Friday 15th September 2017

UK Oil and Gas (UKOG) has been granted a 12-month extension to its license by West Sussex County Council, giving it the opportunity to continue its operations to test drill for oil deposits at Woodbarn Farm.

The BBC revealed that councillors reached a unanimous decision, but raised a number of conditions for the firm.

Chair of the planning committee at West Sussex County Council Councillor Duncan Crow said that the firm has 12 months to carry out further testing, but that when this period is up "the site either needs to be restored to its original condition or it needs to be sealed pending a further application".

According to UKOG, there is evidence of significant oil deposits at Broadford Bridge. Its original licence was due to expire on 16 September this year.

However, many local residents have objected to the activity and are disappointed that the licence has been extended.

UKOG has stressed that its drilling activities will have no effect on local groundwater or water supplies, and that it is using "safe, tried and tested conventional oil field techniques" to explore the site in West Sussex.

The reason the firm is attracted to this area is because it exhibits similar geological characteristics to its Horse Hill oil discovery located near Gatwick Airport, where a natural fracture system in the rock enables oil to flow into a well "at good rates".

If you need high purity valves and other equipment for oil drilling and exploration activities, make sure you seek out your nearest Hy Lok suppliers to get the best-quality equipment for your project.
