New Application For Flow Testing On West Sussex Site

Cuadrilla, which has faced a lot of opposition from local campaigners, is set to submit a new planning application to West Sussex County Council to allow it to flow test and monitor its site in Lower Stumble, Balcombe.

The company has previously been granted permission for this activity, back in May 2014, although the planning permission has now expired.

CEO of Cuadrilla Francis Egan explained that the company had been unable to carry out the exploration works in the permitted time because of the "length of time and resource it has required for us to commence operational activities in our Lancashire exploration licence area".

He added that the new planning application will cover exactly the same scope of activities as the previous one, which was agreed by West Sussex County Council over three years ago.

The company pointed out that no hydraulic fracturing is required at the Lower Stumble site, because the rock is already fractured.

Its flow test will determine the rate at which the oil flows from the well. The well itself has already been drilled, with that activity completed in the summer of 2013.

The West Sussex County Council website states that there are unlikely to be any suitable fracking sites in the area and that it has not granted permission for any companies to carry out fracking activities.

If you are working on any oil or gas exploration projects in the UK and need fluid system components, take a look at the parts available from Hy-Lok, which promise the highest quality and performance.
